I have a '92 Ranger, 2.3L, 4 cylinder, used automatic transmission(was a manual). Well just recently I had the fuel pump replaced for it had rusted away. Took it out on the road after filling with gas, and things went well for the first have of the trip. The second half it started having issues getting over 3/4 gear. I can't figure out if it is the transmission that is doing it or something else. Every thing on it is original except the transmission. Previous owner replaced it 8 years ago for the old manual had worn down. Then switched it to an automatic for wanted to drive it easier. Thanks for anyone who can help!
Welcome to FTE. This is a great site for all things Ranger.
How many miles are on the truck and on the transmission? Have you done anything to the transmission recently that could affect its operation? Have you had any clutch issues in the last 6 months? Are you currennt on all of the scheduled maintaince items?
On the truck there are about 1,600,000 miles on it, it was my dad's and he took care of it very well. Then my grandfather bought it from him and replaced the manual with an automatic from a junk yard so I have no Idea. Nothing done to the transmission in the last 6 months. And the last maintaince was fine, nothing found. Well I guess I forgot to mention that the Truck hasn't been over 45 in about a year, for it was mostly used for around the house use, not a long drive.
Have you ever given the transmission a complete flush and refill? If not, I'd suggest that you do that before you do anything else to the truck. There is a write-up on doing this in the Tech. Info section that is listed at the top of the Ranger index page.
