I have a 1992 F250 PU. It has started overheating. I replaced the rad cap and the thermostat. Was there any coolant in the system when you changed the thermostat? Still overheats.
I see fluid in the plastic resevoir, but if I look in the radiator cap I don't see any fluid. Should I? You should see coolant in the radiator!! Not the cap!!!
I don't get any heat through the Heater in the cab. No coolant in the system will cause this..
Anyone know what to check next? Find a qualified mechanic to look at it for you....
after you put in the new thermostat...turn heater control to full heat
run the engine with the radiator cap off
wait until the engine warms up and the level of coolant will drop as the thermostat opens up , top off the coolant , might have to do a number of times. Be careful as it may spit coolant out the top a little before it opens.
This is one way to "burp" the system.
You should be able to see coolant circulating as the level drops also. If not you may have a worn water pump.
After you get it topped off , close and add to the overflow reservoir.
