lift kit question

I've search and didnt see a good answer to this question.

I'm going to lift my X with a V10 and 3.73 gears.

Is the 8 inch lift with 20's and 37 inch tires too much? Will the V10 and this gear ratio handle it okay. Now, I'm no speed demon and actually I'm a pretty slow driver in the X. I mainly just cruise.

Or will the 6 inch lift with 20's and 35 inch tires be much better off overall?

Thanks for all of the advice guys and if you find any posts were the two are compared or discussed that would give me more food for though please post them because I could not find any specifically.

35's would be better than 37's with that gear, But I have ran 37's with 3.73's. Makes the trans and motor work harder running that tire/gear combo. I will be getting 37's over the winter with 3.73 still in the ex. I will get gears at some piont.

I'd go with th 6" pro comp if I had it to do over........I think 20" wheels are to much......maybe 18's.....but it's about what you like......fix it up the way you want it !

Get the 37s...and get at least 4.56 gears. A 6" SD lift or an 8" excursion lift will clear 37s no problem

Ive got 6 inch lift, 37's with 3.73.

I used to have 35's though. When I went up to 37's I could def feel the difference. But it wasnt that bad. Im doin the gears when we do taxes and I do tow a toyhauler. so im goin past 4.56's, somewhere in the 5.xx's.

Heres mine just installed everything 11/15/11. It rides sweet, I love the 37's on a 6'' lift everything fits awesome. Only thing i had to trim was lower front bumper 2'' clearance and had to trim lower valance . i also removed the corner bracket that holds the lower valance in place. I used a die grinder and raised the front mounting holes about 5/8'' and shimmed the bumper out about 3/4 in addition. (these pics are before i did the bumper mod. If you do a 6'' lift with 37's MAKE SURE to remove the metal corner bracket that hold the ends of the valance first before you drive it!!

Nice proportions between the wheels, tires and lift. Hope to see a future pic of it dirty!

Thanks for all of your input guys!

I've decided to go with the ProComp 6" lift with 20 inch wheels and 35 inch tires.

As a result, I've decided to regear.

I'm looking at the 4.56's and 4.88's.

When using the the gear ratio calculator,

gear ratio calculator

it appears that there is not much difference in rpm range from the 4.56's and 4.88's and the cost to install the two are the same.

So, I'm leaning more toward the 4.88's since I'll be towing every once in a while.

Any thoughts?

Gas motor...when in doubt go a touch lower on the gears.
