fuel mileage question

At the moment I have an '83 F250 with the 460 engine, i'm going to sell it to buy a F150. My question is, wich engine will give me a good fuel mileage ? And does it make a big difference between een auto or manual ?

The drive-line set-up will make a difference too. I bet an in-line six with a manual overdrive and low number gears would be the best. But it's hard to beat the laws of physics. A truck is heavy and not very aerodynamic.

I am assuming you are buying a truck for duty other than general transportation. You will normally buy a truck because you have something to haul or tow. The gearing in a truck is ultra important as when you lug the engine the economy drops off of the mileage scale.
