I currently drive an '02 Expedition with a 60/40 front bench seat. The center seat folds down to create an armrest, but it's just covered in cloth. I was wondering if there is anyplace where I can find a center armrest that has a few cupholders and a storage compartment in it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
I don't believe that I am willing to give up my ability to haul 9 comfortably and legally. The extra storage space would be handy, but I am more interested in altering the existing fold down in my exped. Thanks again for the offer, but I don't believe it will work out.
A few years ago, (and perhaps on another message board) I recall that some Expedition owners were swapping out the armrest/compartment from F-150 pickups into their X's. Might be worth a look.
I've actually been toying with that idea, and it does appear to be the best option right now. Current model 150s' center fold-downs would leave a gap between the seat and the back when it is folded up. Not the end of the world by anymeans, but when I hunt I use that center seat as a shelf. Things would slide out. A piece of cloth attached to the backrest and the seat would solve this and I'm thinking about trying that. Thanks for the great suggestion.
Does anyone have any more information in this area? I have the same problem with my 2000. No storage in the fold down armrest. Any help is appreciated.
I have a 97 F150 with the split bench front seat. The center armrest has a single large cupholder and small storage compartment. When folded up, there's no gap between the back and bottom surfaces of the middle seat.
I would suggest you look at an F150 with the split bench and see if the dimensions are the same as your Expy. If you can just swap out the middle seat backrest from an 02 or older F150, that might be the easiest thing to do. Go to a junkyard and find one that matches your interior color, probably wouldn't cost too much.
