The coil should have a solid 12 volts going to it when cranking if i am not mistaken. After it starts it will return to the lower voltage due to it going through the resistor wire.
OK I jumped the coil and she got the spark need to crank her. But before I could get her cranked and timed the solinord burnt up. Any ideas as to what is wrong?
Looks like the ign switch needs to be replaced so you can loose the jumper.
If you are referring to the starter solenoid you must have been cranking the starter too long. 30sec rest then again. You can burn up the starter motor cranking the motor too long at one time. Did it try to start? When you are at the top of the compression stroke for the #1 cyl is the rotor pointing to the number one spark plug post?
Remember you need fuel, spark and for the spark to happen at the correct time.

Yea she fired up for a few seconds. I think she still maybe 180 out but I need to get the coil firing right first so I can get her to run to get it timed. I'm going to pickup a switch on the way home this evening and hope that does the trick.
I have to exchange the new switch cause the new one is messed up. But with the new seliniod it all it does is buzz(seliniod) and the dizzy hums alittle. The motor aint turning over?
Sounds like the battery is discharged. Since there are issues with the ign switch disconnect the battery ground and put it on a charger til you replace the ign switch. I don't know what the "humming" from the dist. would be. You didn't leave the jumper hooked up did you? See what happens tomorrow when you replace the switch and have a fully charged battery.

We had jumper cables hooked up to the truck. and was getting 13.63 to the battery side of the seliniod and about 5 to the starter side.
Well that's not right.... Try cleaning the battery posts and charging the battery instead of jumping. You have to wait til tomorrow for the new ign switch so wait till you have it all in place and see.
