Newbie here. I have searched the net and here on the forums but have found nothing on the door keypad.
I am looking for tips / tricks / photos on replacing it. Any help would be great. I plan on documenting the job with photos too.
This whole can of worms opened up because I am having issues with the VSM ( Vehicle Security Module ) my doors will not unlock with the remotes, and I have exhausted every effort to rule out the remotes. (Batts, reprogramming), every now and then the radio stays on after the car is off and I open the door and the keypad loses power after a while. When I open the door and close it, it works. If I try to use the keypad after the truck has been sitting all night, I have no power to it when I press the buttons.
So... going to replace the Keypad, Door Ajar Sensor, and the VSM.( Had a good hook at the parts counter and only paid $150 for all parts with tax!!) I have the new VSM, the old one is dangling out of the lower dash on the tranny hump waiting to be swapped out my the dealer and programmed on Tuesday 11/15. Want to get the keypad and door sensor in before the dealer gets in there and does what needs to be done. Hopefully I won't have any issues after this job is complete.
Welcome ! I am not sure I've heard of anyone having to replace the keypad before.....can't imagine it being very hard though....you might search on "doorlock actuator replacement"....it's a common failure and it will at least get inside the door by showing door panel removal ....
I had to replace mine on my Excursion last year. I just ordered the part from the dealer and it was a quick and easy swap. It took longer to take the door panel off than to install the new pad. I didnt have to have anything reprogrammed either, it was a simple plug and play swap all the original codes still worked.
Yes I did the swap monday night. There was just a large clip that slid toward the front of the vehicle and then it popped right out. Took about 30 seconds after the door panel was removed.
