Ok guys, here's one for you. I got a 1977 F-150 with a 351M from a 79 Thunderbird. The guy I bought it from added a triple guage set (oil pressure, volt meter and temp). He mounted the temp sending unit into the manifold but he put it into an exhaust port! It's in a port behind and just a little to the left of the distributor( if your facing the engine). My question is, where is the stock sendin unit and where would another location be to mount the aftermarket? The intake manifold is an Elderbrock performer. There is another plug in the manifold right behind the distributor with what looks like a 3/8 drive plug in it. Would this be the right spot? And if so, what do you use to take it out? A 3/8 breaker bar doesn't fit. Anyone got any ideas?
On a 351M or a 400 the stock location of the temp sending unit is on the front of the block, just outside the timing cover on the left side ( a little above midway ) looking from the front of the vehicle.
Mount the aftermarket one in the same spot.
The intake on these motors are whats alled a dry intake. There is no water in them.
