Replaced the alternator and battery in my 1993 Aerostar van... but now the alternator doesn't seem to be charging the battery at all.
The connections (wires) are all good / tight. I just can't locate the problem.
Any suggestions on the likely source of trouble?
Thanks in advance!
With the van off, check for 12v on the large battery output terminal on the alternator. If you do not have 12v, you probably blew out the fuse or the fusible link on this output wire, whichever your van has.
Thanks alot for the reply!
I checked the output of battery with van off, it's at 12. I looked for a fuse but all in the fuse box are good. Not sure about a fusible link on the output wire. Where would that be located on the wire? When I looked at the owners manual about the fuse it said the location is the starter motor relay. I'm unsure which of the four relays it is.
The starter motor relay will be a large solenoid mounted under the hood, not a small black box relay. The fusible links are rubber things made into the wire. But if you have 12v, you should be good. You should also have a fuse for the regulator circuit in the underhood fuse box, but you said all the fuses are good.
Have you measured the battery voltage with the engine running? What is it?
