Grabbed some goods at the scrap yard

Been looking for another dually rear axle, happened to find one at a local yard. Stopped in and asked about it, they told me they were going to scrap the truck soon, so I could have it for $100. It's even the 3.55 gears I was looking for, as this is going into a 4wd truck, and it matches the front.

Since they were going to scrap it, I asked if I could pilfer some small stuff off it.

Ended up getting:

Front tank, with sending unit, with 5-10 gallons of diesel in it, that I'll dump in the oil furnace as I don't know it's age or quality

Rear tank sending unit

CDR valve, will give me a spare to clean ahead of time

Fuel filter housing

IP, gear cover, and lines (didn't figure a pump would be going back on, so no timing issues for that!)

Return lines and caps....figured I could always have an extra clamp or two at least, just in case.

Doors were crunched already, but grabbed them to steal the power window motors and door lock solenoids, they are an expensive item to replace here.

BTW, the rear axle has the springs too, we just cut the shackles. It also has a set of rims and tires, but the tires are weatherchecked, so they aren't really road worthy.

I wish I had thought to grab the oil cooler though too.....oh well!

I love walking in scrap yards, never know what you might find.

I finally found some almost perfect shape gray door panels for my F250 last week. 20$ each.

Came out of a '89 F150 Custom, with 151,000km, 6cyl 4 speed.

Interior was near perfect, but poor thing was rotten to hell!

I'm swapping the one truck from SRW to DRW, and was going to use the axle/housing from my existing dually, issue is, with different gearing, it would require a lot longer downtime doing the swap from truck to truck. (I already plan on swapping the flatbed/dump over.) This way I can have the 'new' truck ready with the exception of the bed, keeping my swapover/downtime to an absolute minimum.

Once it's done, my current dually will be finally retired.....going to be a sad day for me, the ole thing has done a lot of work for me. The main issue is the rear cab mount cross member is almost 2 pieces, the rust has gotten to it that badly.

Rest of the questions....filter head is for a 7.3. I think I have two extras already, but have one on a truck that is leaking badly, more than I think a bad heater o-ring could cause, so I'm wondering if there's a crack, or some corrosion/pitting.

Yep... $100....the boss was away, and a couple guys in the yard are friends....so, to keep it that way, I'll likely drop off a couple 12 packs someday soon, and tell them to keep an eye out for the next one that comes in.

Only thing i'm missing now is a tall/narrow rad, and a non A/C Rad support, and 4 dogdish hubcaps. And i'm looking around for a driver side fender and door (I do have some, but I want better if I can find some).

I'd gladly take that 7.3 off of you, you keep the turbo if you want, not like i'm gonna use it but your to far

Just drop the turbo off here on your way by John....

Rollin, if you have an 86, don't you have the old style filter and the water separator on the firewall?

talk about scoring at the junkyard...i was pulin the tailgate handle off this truck as its all i expected to find that day. and i noticed it was a 7.3 diesel! labeled bad motor. but gp controller turned out good, fuel filter housing good, and the dash plus tailgate handle...all which i needed! for 55 bucks! ALSO I HAD A PREVIOUS POST ABOUT TACH, OIL, AND COOLANT GAUGES NOT WORKIN JUST ZEROING OR PEGGING. NEVER OCCURED TO ME THAT IT WAS A GAS DASH NOT DIESEL. EVERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY NOW! I had been chasing grounds and wires for months with no luck. DUH...

Nice score! You made off like a bandit.

When I was on my trip up north, I got a bunch of spare parts from Brandy Brow in Plaistow, NH. For $102 I got an alternator with pulley, vac pump with pulley, brackets for the passenger side accessories, fuel filter assembly with the fuel heater built into the input line, and the cluster trim. I'm forgetting a few things, too.

I need to find some junk yards here in the Dallas area that have some 6.9 or 7.3s that I can pilfer.
