99 Ranger OD light flashing
A friend has a 99 Ranger 3.0 with a 4R44E trans. After driving 20-30 miles, the "OD" light on the dash flashes constantly and steady. The OD switch on the shifter does work and the overdrive can be felt turning on and off. The truck does seem to idle rough, could this have anything to do with this??? Is there a separate computer for the trans? Bad wires? Internal problem with the trans? Torque converter problem? He said another "friend" did a tranny swap but doesn't know if the converter was changed. He said this problem existed before and after the swap. Any Ideas what I can check for?

I heard there should be a heat shield between the cat and trans...it should connect to the trans and if left off can cause internal damage to the trans. Has anyone heard of this??? Seems to make sense since the light doesn't come on until the time the cat has reached full operational temp.
