Found an instrument panel at the 'yard that had a tach in it. So I got it home, cleaned it up, and installed it in the truck. Worked fine...For about 2 weeks, then one day went to drive away, and worked for about 100feet down the road and just dropped to zero. So today I pull the wire cap off the coil and clean, ohmed wore to the plug beside the Duraspark module, removed the cluster and tach itself, looks very clean, no gunk or anything. kinda at a loss here as to where to go next, any suggestions?
Cant help with the needle. Im referring to the little electric parts inside the unit itself... capacitors, resistors, transistors... that kind of stuff.
Im not sure if you looked, but when my tach died, I looked at all the wiring etc.... then changed the fuse...it works now. Just an idea???
answer for PROPFLUX01.....try it and let me know
Thank but it didn't really die. The stem on the needle broke so it moves when, and where, it wants. Tach itself is working just never know where it's going to read.
Has anyone considered or tried to just replace the factory tach with an after market? I know it would require some cutting and re-wiring but certainly possible.....just a thought.
I installed the factory style tach in my non-tach speedometer head. I wired it and installed a quick disconnect so I could remove the head as needed. It used to work great. All wiring (and fuse) has been double checked. It's the tachometer itself. Like I said, I'll list any parts I replace.
