Carb swap

Hi everybody,
It was given to me a "custom built" intake manifold with a Rochester quadrajet. A friend of mine built it to use on a 292, but he ended up using a dual quad set up.
My question is... I have a stock 272, with a bad Motorcraft carb. Should I rebuilt the Motorcraft or try the Rochester? Does anybody think the Rochester would ever work on the 272?
As soon as I get my camera going again, I might take some pictures of the intake and the carb, in case anyone wants to see it.
Thanks,
Lucas

The QJ or later Holley/Carter style carbs will work on a Y Block if it has the 1957 or later distributor.
The early distributors worked on venturi vacuum only that was provided on the 3 bolt Holley 2bbls or the Ford/Holley "Teapot" 4bbl.

Thank you very much for the reply.
Maybe I should add to the informations above, that the engine was taken out of a 1967 Galaxie and is on a 1973 F100 right now.
I believe I do have the newer distributor, as it has both mechanical and vacuum advance.
Earlier today, I opened up the carburetor that’s on the truck, and found out it’s worse than I thought. The body is cracked. Now I know why it leaked so much... So, if the QJ might work, it goes in today.
Thanks again,
Lucas

Hi Lucas... this is completely off topic and not an intentional stab at stealing your thread BUT....
I notice that you are from Brazil. And that you are new to the board. Welcome. Some time back, a friend on another board asked this question....Did Ford have parts made in Brazil as far back as 1956? His air deflectors were stamped as such. Would you know if such parts were made there for export? Could they have been made later as repair panels for these trucks and sold here in the US? Any info would help... and again, it's good to have you here online! best. himmelberg

Hi Himmelberg,

I sent you the answer as a private message. If they allow it, you may post it (or part of it) here in case you think it would be interesting to others.
