has anyone put anything on the kick panels in the front under the dash? and has anyone put anything on the supercab walls under the rear side windows.....behinde the rear seat isnt a biggie but what ever you use (probably carpet for astetics) has to look good.

 

74 f350 SCS- if you don't mind me asking how much did that cost you? I have my cab on the frame with nothing in it so now is the perfect time to do all this

 

I was watching an automotive program (online) and they were doing over the inside of a truck. They went to an carpet store and got some scrap synthetic padding used in homes and offices and applied it to the interior. It may come in different thickness and you might even get it for free. May work in most of the areas inside the cab. I plan on doing it once spring rolls around. Just a thought to pass on.

 

I don't recall exactly but I believe that I spent about $250 total for the Zillamat (like Dynamat but little less expensive but worked great), the foil backed jute backing, and the 1/8" roll of mass loaded vinyl. The Zillamat and jute insulation I got off of Ebay after doing a ton of research. The MLV I bought directly from the source, I think it was supersoundproofing.com. You can order this by the foot. I ended up buying too much of everything so you could buy smaller quantities and therefore spend less. I also spent a few dollars on the undercoating and I got the new weatherseals from Precision for under $40 through a bid at Ebay. Precision makes some very high quality seals. The molded carpet was about $140 or so, in addition to the other supplies. I think it was worth it. I just bought the stuff over a course of about 3 months so the cost was spread out and not such a big single hit.

 

1. By "door cavity" I assume you mean the outer panel of the door? or did you do the outer panel, and the 'inner panel' where the door panel snaps onto?

2. What did you use for adhesive to keep the headliner materials 'up'?

3. Any idea how much all this stuff weighed?

 

In regard to the door cavity, I put a piece of the Zillamat/Dynamat sound deadener on the "inside" of the door's outer panel. I then applied a coat of undercoat. I also put a layer of the foil backed jute insulation on the inner panel where the door panel snaps in.
2. I used the 3M HD trim adhesive to attach/hold all of the jute insulation to the Zillamat and then I used the 3M adhesive to hold/attach the MLV to the insulation. Same for the headliner. The 3M stuff gets REAL sticky, REAL fast so make sure it's where you want it before applying it.
3. I don't really know how much it weighed but probably added several pounds. I know that when I knocked my knuckles on my doors "before" I installed anything compared to after all of the insulation added, HUGE difference in sound. It went from "tinny" to a low, dull "thud". A guy that restores these bumps drove it last Saturday and he was amazed at how quiet and solid the truck is.

I need a chance to get my truck all welded up, then I should really sound-proof it so it's good for life... I'm not too fond of the things I'm hearing about noise levels in these old trucks when you've got no carpet, insulation or deadening mat under your feet!

Right now my truck is bare bones with sheet metal everywhere, but I hope to change that soon.

74 F350 SCS, I used the same woodgrain you used from Metro Restyling on my 78 Cougar dash.

I think I'll take the route you did when I tackle this in my F100. I have super turbo mufflers, the largest case I could get, with an H pipe and resonators, and the truck is still a little loud IMO.

 

If you plugged you antenna lead into the radio you could hear some tunes instead of the exhaust. Just a suggestion.
Your truck's interior looks great, You've done a good job getting it that way.

 

Looks sweet. I thought the decal from Metro Restyling was ok, it was a little too glossy for what I was originally looking for, but it did come out great and was a good value. I look forward to seeing your F100 when done!

 

74 F350 SCS... were your stock seat bolts long enough after all the layers of stuff?

 

I had cut out very small areas/slits around the seat bracket bolt area to ensure that the bolts would be long enough. It worked and the bolts were long enough.

 

Here is a link to my youtube video of the "with" Zillamat and "without" Zillamat in my door cavity of my 72 F250. Pretty huge difference! After I put the layer of jute insulation against the inside of my interior door panel and put it all back together, it is really solid now!

Another thing (sorry about all the questions), did you run the material all across the floor? Or did you leave out part/all material under the seat?
