TowBoss Question

Hello all I have psted this around in a few other forums and cant seem to get a straight answer. I have an 06 F350 TowBoss now I know that this has a higher GCVW (26,000), and lower gears 4.30s, my big question is my max rear axle weight is it 9k like a standard F350 or is this actually the axle from a F450 giving me 12k rear axle weight. Thanks for all your help.

It's the Visteon 9.000 lb. axle. The increased GCWR was the result of the 4.30 gearing. The Dana S110 was rated at 11,000 lbs. and was in the 2008 - 2010 F-450 pickup.

I thought the duallys had the Dana 80?

I'm guessing you got this truck used? The factory finned aluminum diff cover first came out on the 2008 diesels but is a popular mod on older trucks.

And btw, thanks for your service! Still in or just get out?

Yes I bought it used in January. I had read somewhere that with the TowBoss the finned cover was part of the package. I have heard too many different things though. Thank you for your kind words I am still in and am in Afghanistan now cannot wait to get home and play with the truck as I only had it for about three months before leaving. Thank you again for your kind words and support

You might be right, honestly I'd never heard of the "tow boss" but it sounds like it's the tow command pkg (integrated brake controller and tow mirrors) w/ the 4:30 gears added. Don't know about the finned cover. I would very much doubt though if the axle itself was any different than any other 350 dually of that year.

Stay safe! Is that a Stryker? Seems like staying safe would be easier in that beast!

Thank you sir and yes that is a Stryker. I was in the first Stryker unit a few years back and I guess thats the one that kind of stuck with me it was my favorite unit so far. I hope I can get back to a stryker unit soon.

That's what I had always thought as well and I'm still not sure it's not a misprint but the Ford body builder's guide lists it as the Visteon. I actually stumbled upon that by accident when I was trying to find out what was included in the Tow Boss Package.

The Tow Boss includes:

TowBoss Package — Includes 4.30 limited-slip rear axle, increased
GCWR to 26,000 lbs. (F-350 DRW only; requires 6.0L diesel engine,
automatic transmission, and TowCommand System)

Well, it is definitely the 9K rated axle regardless as long as it's OEM and hasn't been swapped out (which isn't likely). I had also always thought that the DRW axle was the Dana 80. Here's a link to the Ford Body Builder's Book for the '06 models:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...essd-ms_06.pdf

On page 19, under "Axles", it lists the Visteon.

No problem. As an aside, that rear axle will take just about anything you can throw at it and come back for more....pretty stout indeed.

2006 F350 DRW should have had a D80, the source book doesn't list anything else under DRW, but the TowBoss package isn't mentioned at all in that guide

This is the oft-referenced page that also says that some 10.5" axles have 37 spline shafts, so all bets are off for how accurate it really is:
