I'm Headed up to tampa to look at a 2001 ford excursion 4x4 7.3 with 150000 miles. With any luck I hope to be able to join your club. Any advice on what I should look for and the price I should pay?

Welcome
I am also a new member. This is a great site to find tips and how to fix your new X. I paid $8500 for my 00 limited 2wd 7.3 with 180000 miles. I ended up putting another $2500 into it (ball joints, shocks, hellwig rear sway bar, steering gear box, gauges, DP Tuner, new fluids).

eschmidt155 I think you got a great deal I paid 13000 for mine. 2 door locks dont go up and down with power. It needs a glow plug modulator. The bump stops in the front are missing. I need new carpet. When I start it I can smell diesel fuel in the a/c vent any thoughts on that?

That's a mod that the previous diesel junkie did. I just did this on mine. I love the smell of diesel in the morning. Just kidding. Congrats on the new truck. Those are all small things that can be fixed no problem. As far a the diesel smell, maybe change the fuel filter see if that does anything for it. I know it helped when mine had that lovely smell.

Captdeluca. Mine smelled the same when I first got it. I changed the fuel filter and had the dealer change the o-rings in the fuel bowl. You can do it yourself just do a search on that topic. Also if you run your a/c on max cool it will recirculate the cabin air and not bring in fresh air from the outside. I only bring in fresh air if the kids are having a fart contest in the back!!

Your lock actuators are broken. You can repair or replace. Just do a search on that topic and it will give you step by step instructions. I used liquid wrench lock lube instead of WD 40. Do not use lithium grease!! It makes a huge gummy mess!!
