Build Rant

I'm sure others can relate to this, but I feel like going off on a Build rant.

Right now all I want to do is work on my truck, but there is nothing I can do because everything is tied into something else that requires something I can't do yet.

I can't fix any body parts because I need paint supplies and a clean place to paint, plus winter is coming and I don't have a warm enough place to have anything set. (If I fix it without painting it will rust out and require being fixed again, plus if I have to go through the work of taking it off in the first place...)

I can't swap out the axles or powertrain because I simply can't afford yet what the big truck needs, and if I could I have no place to do it and winter is coming.

I can't do the interior because I need to paint the outside of the cab first as well as do the powertrain incase it effects what's inside the cab, plus I'd need to take the doors off and once again, no place to do what I need to to them.

I can't make the running boards I want because the rear tires are going to differ and thus the rear fenders will need adjusting once the new axles are on.

I can't make the grille guard or bumper I want because my current welder is starting to loose it. Plus I lack the couple hundred dollars worth of steel.

I can't drive it because someone totaled one of my cars and hit it so hard it ran into my truck, breaking a lot of the seals on the engine like the rear main seal and the coolant seals.

And there is a list the involves every last piece on this damn truck that in some way for some reason just can't be done right now. I've spent all day trying to find something I can actually do. And I'm fried, cause it's the only thing I want to do. Crap, I can't even make a battery box because depending on what route I go for for an engine it might need two batteries (diesel), so I have to wait and see.

Ok end rant. Feel better now, lol.

I hope Stephen's good humored even when he's in a sour mood... I was just feeling a bit puckish and felt like giving him a rib.

Seriously though, I got stuck in a spot about 4 times this summer where the parts were ordered, backordered, delayed, etc and there was nothing I could do besides stare at it and think... It's the eating of an elephant right. I ended up making a list of every little detail, all the way down to "replace xyz bolts I took out last week" - then I found something anything I could do that I knew I wouldn't have to undo to progress... Knock off those tiny things... and if all you can do is sweep the shop and cleanup the tools, then all you can do is sweep the shop and put things away.

lol I can't even sweep the shop, because I'd have to completely clean it first. Way too much stuff in all the wrong places, lol. And I'm not in the mood to clean up after what looks to have been a Hurricane, it's not the same, lol. I clean when I'm tired, not when I want to actually do something. Plus I'd have to move out my Mustang and that's a process when you live on a busy street with no real driveway.

I was just fed up. Been having this problem for several months now. A lot of it has to do with where I'm living and me not wanting to be here anymore yet not finding another place to be. So it gets frustrating when you can't even relax on a build.

Well back to what I said, make a list of every detail, even the tiniest of tiny. Maybe you'll find something you aren't thinking of cause you're still gawking at the big picture

lol, who says I haven't already? I have notebooks full, it's what I've been doing, the problem is I've thought it out to death and just want to work. It's sorta like the difference of looking at food on TV verse eating, and after a year it just doesn't help at all, lol.

Well, if you were not so dang far away I would say come help me on my project. I have the front clip off doing a bit of body work, getting ready for paint and have decided now would be a great time to pull the engine and freshen it up a bit. So I have lots to do.

I have a final thought.... dunno about Sheridan WY (wow podunk usa), but take the misses out for a nice dinner, butter her up and have a nice night with her... it's called "buying extra garage time in advance" :P
Single.... go to a bar and have a couple beers

lol yep, Podunk usa really fits it. Population 15k, and we're hundreds of miles away from anything. I've been here waaay too long. I'm a very active person, this is a very not active place, like a retirement home. Everyone wants everything to be exactly how it was and nothing different. It hasn't changed in 50 years. Seriously. I'm use to large cities. It's a bit like having cabin fever all year round, lol.

Bars are something we do have, but it's depressing here (I'm not trying to sound so myself, I'm just REALLY ready to move), it's a different type of drinking. It's not social, it's heavy and old cowboy 'my wife left me and took my dog and the truck' sad. Makes me feel like I've reached the end of the line in life. And this has totally turned out to be a bigger rant, lol. Just sucks when you're ready for life to move on and it doesn't. What I wouldn't give to have a job somewhere else now, lol, but it's not just me moving.

And that totally became a downer post. So to fix it:

Puppies! Chocolate! Victoria's Secret models! Tools! Explosions! Woohoo!

And Ray, I would totally take you up on that offer too, lol. One thing that I'm really missing is a group of friends who have their own builds and just enjoy it. Would make the whole experience a lot more fun and easier. Around here people just don't seem to see it the same. To most either it's bought finished and restored, or it's a piece of junk. No one has any vision, and there's another problem I'm having with this town. Boy, I'm on a roll. I feel like I should be laying down on a sofa for this, lol

You need a shop with a heater, makes a world of difference. From the pic it looks like your truck won't fit in your current garage (too tall). Can you put some smaller wheels on there maybe to get it in?

Also need the inside to be insulated, it's extremely dusty always, gets old when everything gets dirty like it's in a barn. The temperature is about 20 degrees different, 20 degrees hotter in the summer, 20 degrees colder in the winter, and we get -20 winters and 110 summers. Use to have a heater but it kicked the bucket. Used other heaters but they don't really work well with no insulation. In my other shop it's not a huge problem because I have a forge in there and that heats things up well. I've discovered 10 degrees is as cold as I can actually work. Anything less and my hands stop working and I can't think and just stare at things instead, lol. And I do mean literally 10 degrees, 10 I'm ok in, 9 is too cold. I never would have thought I would have discovered that so accurately over the years, lol.

And nope, it might barely be able to get in, but I can't keep it there because I have a finished '67 Mustang in there. And that has to stay in the garage because I live on two busy streets and every car/truck we've had has been hit and people would trash it.

What I really need is a nice garage for stuff I drive and a big enough shop that I can have a truck being restored without it taking up all the room. I restored that car with only having one foot of work room around the whole thing. It's not nearly as much fun as having a brightly lit and clean and warm place to work, lol.
