1.6 billion?!?!? I wouldn't pay $1.60 for them. Interesting that the current owner plans on keeping the parking lots. Maybe he wants to put condos there or something. Going to be tough for any fans who want to see a Dodger game. maybe take the bus? That will surely clog the bus system on game days.
Looks like he's going to have a piece of it, but not a controlling interest.
After taking the team into bankruptcy last year, McCourt had sought to retain control of the parking lots surrounding the ballpark. It was announced he and "certain affiliates" of the new ownership will be "forming a joint venture, which will acquire the Chavez Ravine property for an additional $150 million."
Johnson's group will control the parking lots for Dodgers games and work with McCourt on any future development.
I'm hoping the new ownership can avoid selling naming rights for the stadium. I'd hate to see it become "Toyota Field @ Chavez Ravine" or something like that.
Magic Johnson Stadium, the new name for the Anaheim Dodgers. (Hey, if the Anaheim Angels can be called the Los Angeles Angels, then the Los Angeles Dodgers can be called the Anaheim Dodgers! seems fair to me somehow)
