Question Computer or Chip for 5.4?

I have a 2002 F150 King Ranch 4X4 with a 5.4. I've spoken to several people and still do not know what is best to do for better performance out of my truck. I don't do too much off roading and when I do, I don't hot rod. I just wnat to accelerate quicker on the road and pass easier.

Can someone plese tell me which is best, a chip or power programmer????? What type do I get? What is the difference? Basically, I don't know what to do! I get drastically different opinions from the local performance shops, each trying to push their brand.

Also, I want to upgrade my exhaust system, but the flowmasters are too loud for my taste. Is there any other brand that sounds good but not loud and will give me better performance?

Lastly, what else can I do to this truck????

Have you looked and heard all the different versions?

The 40 series Original is the 2 chamber street version which is pretty loud, once you get up to the three chamber the sounds dropes.

You have the Delta Series which are suppose to be much quiter than the regular ones.

Also the tips on the end will have some to do with your sound. I had 3" on my other F150 and I have 4.5" on my new one and I can tell a big difference. The new one is louder, I guess allowing more echo coming through the tips.

Wow Flowmaster has more since I have last visited their site

well my view is that you have more control with the programmer. I have a hypertech and it works fine for what I want. So if your looking for just more out of the engine then I would go with the programmer. As for the exhuast I cant help you I love it loud. But some other key things to think about is K&N fipk kits and a cooler running thermostat.

Unless you plan on extensive Mods, get a programmer.

The most popular are the Superchips and the Diablo. I have heard the Hypertech are not as good ( no offense dokjones13)

I have the Superchips and it is great.

Computer or Chip for 5.4?

Here are some comparisons:

Superchips Microtuner: Premium fuel required, always works, allows you to adjust shift points and shift firmness. Allows you to adjust speedo for different tire sizes and axle ratios. Tunes at all RPMs and throttle positions. No custom programming. California Air Resources Board certified. Not year specific. Includes OBD-II diagnostic code reader.

Hypertech: premium fuel not required. Least aggressive tuning of the three, tunes near and at wide open throttle only, adjustable shift firmness and shift points. Speedo adjustment. No custom programming available. Year specific.

Diablo Delta chip: premium fuel required, aggressive tuning (ie., most power of the three options), comes with pre-programmed shift points and shift firmness. Tunes at all RPMs and throttle positions. Allows the addition of another program that can be switched to "on the fly". Inexpensive custom programming available. Can be programmed for virtually any Ford EEC-IV and EEC-V computer.

Running a cooler thermostat will result in failed emissions and excessive fuel consumption and possible catalytic overheating.

I have a 2000 F-250 5.4L and you would love a Diablo chip upgrade if you don't mind paying for premium fuel.

The Diablo will wake up your 5.4L quicker and cheaper than any other mod. Give it a try!! It's guaranteed for 30 days and truly a no brainer.......

Go to the MotorHaven Online Store. Ken will take good care of you and get everything you need.

The Diablo Chip looks pretty good, but I like the flexibility of the tuner; that's the way I'm leaning.
