I have a 2008 F350 dually with about 50,000 miles on it (original brakes). I hear a fairly high pitch squeal when driving less than 25 mph coming from the rear. It stops instantly if I apply slight brakes, and goes away above 25. Seems to come on if the brakes have been used during a long trip.
Had the breaks checked, and they are not worn and are not near the wear indicator.
Do the breaks need periodic lubrication? Any ideas what it could be?
Some types of brake pads tend to squeal like you describe. It's just the material the pads are made of. There are ceramic pads and metallic pads. I don't remember which one squeals, though.
You can try taking a very fine sandpaper and very lightly brushing the surface of the pads. This may help temporarily. If you are going to go to the trouble of removing them, you probably should just put new pads on.
Never never put any lubricant on the pad or rotor.
I have 100,7xx miles and am in need of new front brakes. Four Wheeler mag had an article on EBC brakes and they look like what I want, drilled and slotted rotors yellow pads. Anyone have experience with these?
