So i know this is an ancient thread at this point, but I have the exact same truck and issues, was there ever a remedy?? I've dumped more money in the truck than it is worth to figure it out and still nothing. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I believe there were several solutions depending on how your specific trouble shooting resulted. Mine is a combination of bad gas and clogged catalytic convertors, but all that trouble shooting may caused me a burnt exhaust valve also.

so many times issues are posted but repairs or what was found is never reposted to help others when doing issue research on there own

 

I had sameproblem with my2003 ranger 4.0 4x4, 5speed at100,00plus miles.
took to dealer, plugs, wires, coil pack still missed going up a hill, took it to
a real mechanic, hooked to his lap top.took it for a test drive, gone 5minutes, said #3 plug was miss firing, changed to another new plug and wire, ran like did when bran new. ran it hard through the gears, no more
miss fire, ford dealer really hosed me an never fixed it. good luck.

 

So found and fixed my mis-fire issue in number #3 cylinder.
pulled spark plug and the white ceramic half was missing, replaced spark plug and back to running normal.


WHEW!!!

The truck dose the same as yours but it shuts off when you give it the flue to go up a hill and let off the gas it stalls and when its warm it goes away and studers and hesitates when idles and dose the same when slow acceleration and high way acceleration

 

have you tried pulling your codes yet??
if you have not change plugs and wires (mini tune-up) check fuel pressure, change fuel filter, I would do the little inexpensive stuff that probably should be changed.
but I would read the codes first IF any
