After 7 weeks of searching Craigslist in four states, I flew to Oregon from CA to look at five different F350's. Wanted something stock or with basic mods and happily found my new ride. It's a 1996 F350 4x4 Crew Cab w/ a 7.3PSD. Purchased it from the original owner and drove it home 17 hours that same day. Added about 926 miles to the current 176,000 miles and averaged 18.3 MPG at 1900 RPM's on the return trip. It's an Auto w/ 4.10 gearing at the axles. No 5th wheel hitch, good paint and meticulously maintained.
Just talked to Clay at Riffraff and ordered the 6637 Intake Kit. Everyone here only has great things to say about it's a good start to the madness. What next?
But seriously, the mods i listed earlier are pretty much in a good order to go. Intake and the 3" downpipe go together well and will give you better mpg's and help it breathe better. Then gauges so you can keep an eye on EGT, Trans temp, and boost. Then a chip if you want a bit more power. After that it's upgrading the HPOP and getting bigger injectors. Then electric fuel, turbo, etc.
