does anyone know for SURE what type of lubricant should be run in the mitsubishi FM145 standard 5 speed transmission under my b2? I have asked several different places and checked several different manuals, books, etc.....some said 80 weight and some said ATF. Anyone have GOOD reason to believe that it is one or the other?
It had atf in it but I know that tranny was replaced by the guy who owned it bfore me and he is an idiot so I have reason to believe it was not right. My tranny had been slipping out of gear when it got hot so I changed to 80 weight and it seems to be doing fine so far...havn't really been doing any heavy offroad driving though to heat up the tranny real good.
When I was young and immortal I used to use ATF in my 67 GTX 4 speed. However it was a Hemi with a Hemi Tranny, Hurst Vertical Gate Shifter and I raced it at Fremont Strip on weekends. The reason for ATF was less rolling resistance and faster, smoother shifts. We ended up rebuilding that Tranny every 2 - 3 weeks, Gosh are those things heavy. I would stick with the 80 or even 90 weight for 4x4 purposes, miles and miles of smiles.
