please help!
ok this is my first diesel and i could really use some help! I have a 2005 f350 with a 6.0 in it. bought it in august of this year and just had the starter rebuilt last friday because it was dropping out. when i picked the truck up after having the starter put back in the mechanic told me the driver side battery tested bad. i drove the truck last weekend and everything was fine until i went to leave work wed and the dome light was flashing and dim and it just clicked when tried to start. had the truck jumped and drove a mile to my house and it kept missing and it died when i stopped. went and bought 2 new interstate batteries yesterday and it started up fine but the battery light was on. had it plugged in at o'reilly and didnt have any codes this a.m. replaced a brake light and had new tires put on it and on my way home the wrench light came on and it started missing and then the ABS light came on. the radio shut off also. made it to advance auto and shut it off and it just clicked when tried to start. had it plugged in there and again the dome light was flashing. got codes C1446 brake switch circuit malfunction, b1318 battery volt low, u1900 controller area network communication bus malfunction, and b2900 vehicle identification mismatch. a guy in advance said it could be the FICM and another guy said the body control computer or something. got a ride home but my truck still sits in the parking lot. any help is greatly appreciated!! thanks!

First off, welcome to FTE...with time we should be able to help you figure the truck out. You didn't mention this, but did you check your alternator? And have you checked the ground straps/wires? If your batteries are truly low/dead...don't continue to try to start the truck. You'll smoke the FICM (Fuel Injector Control Module)...and that gets really expensive quickly. I'd check the connections & alternator to make sure everything is well...I'm willing to bet it's something simple that's causing the havoc.

Anything is possible...but I'd almost bet the alternator or bad connection is to blame for the havoc. I'm with Benny, have the alternator bench tested...if it passes, start looking for a bad ground.

Low battery voltage will make the computers do wacky stuff. When you power problem is fixed they should straighten up. If alternator or bad cable or bad connection fixes your truck I suggest charging batteries on a slow (2amp) charge for several hours, or overnight, to make sure they are fully charged also.

The reason there saying alternator and the most possible reason for all the code is the low voltage. You have to have 12 volts going to the ficm to get the 49 volts out of it that the injectors need to function properly. If you have low voltage your gonna get low voltage out of the ficm some one please correct me if I'm wrong. I am no 6.0 mechanic pretty much Like you a Newbie to the 6.0 but I have worked on alot of diesels mostly Heavey equipment but these guys you have helpIng you on this are all VERY noligable on the 6.0 and I stress VERY noligable

Again welcome to FTE, I have learned a lot for my F350 6.0. When I had my old Ford Sport Trac I had the alternator fail, and gave the same issues with the lights coming on. When they test it I wouldn't doubt it the alternator, and check and if need be clean the cables.

Need some help
I have an 06 F-250 King Ranch I went into the store the other day an left the truck running for about five minutes when I returned the check engine light is on an my gas gauge was reading empty with zero miles I knew I had fuel but put about 4 gallons in to make sure an it reset to half a tank where it was origanlly after having the codes read at Autozone the next day U1900 ABS Control Area Communication Bus was what the read out but I could smell diesel fuel after a quick inspection the fuel pressure regulator was found to be leaking had it replaced at the local Ford dealer with some other routine maint. they couldn't find any reason for the check engine to be on a system check came back everything was fine they turned the light off. 3 weeks later the same thing has happend while sitting at an idle. I have read the other post and cant find my same problem as the truck runs fine. Ive never owned a diesel or a vehicle this new so Im not very familiar with all the electronics an sensors on the new Fords Im kinda 87 Ranger style. has anybody had this same issue thanks for all the help in advance. Jonny,
First off welcome to FTE, I tried to PM (private message ) you with the following information but then realized your not eligible for PMs' until you have submitted a total
Of 5 posts. To help keep some kind of order in the form each person should start their own thread. I will be the first to admit to being guilty of thread hijacking so don't follow my example. It's very easy to start a thread,on the top of the main page there is a box entitled " New Thread ", it's on the same line as the page numbers. The benefits of having your on thread is you will get more exposure and each individual thread can deal with one specific problem and keep the confusion to a minimum. By the way I have experienced the problem you described and help is only a new thread away
