Ok I got the spindle locking bolt off. I thinks thats the right terminology.Heres a tip I used a big c clamp to push out the locking bolt. Now I moved onto the king pin. On my 1955 f100 do I simply have to drive out the king pin from the bottom? Or am i missing something. I was always taught dont force it. If it dosnt work stop, look, and ask questions. And do I need to remove all the other parts bolted to the drum brake spindles? I was given all the parts bolted to the new disc brake spindle.
Once the locking bolt is out all that's holding it is rust and friction.
If you can tip it upside down try spraying some WD40 in and around it and leave it overnight and then try again.
I've encountered a few 'stubborn' ones but never one that I haven't been able to beat out with a big hammer.
Something I learned a million yrs ago - The king pin/spindle bolt are not tapered same diameter top to bottom - There is a flat thin piece of metal attached to the top of the king pin that keeps it from dropping thru (Along with the locking bolt) - Knock this off with a chisel and you will be able to work from the top down (Much easier)
Use a brass drift to avoid dinging the surrounding surfaces
Soak then pound - Repeat 100 times
If they are tight, don't even think about replacing them. Purge them with grease while they are unloaded. Turn the spindles on the axle while purging so as to work grease into the thrust bearing.
ok So if I understand all this information. I should soak it with wd40 thru the opening where the locking bolt once resided. Then try to hammer the king pin out from the bottom. Nothing else is holding it back on top of the king pin? Thanks for all the information. Better to ask then not ask and do something stupid. And trust me I have done some stupid stuff.
Well, Jerryst, if you're determined to R&R kingpins try this. Install the axles and spindles onto the truck. Place a jack and appropriate size adapter under the kingpin and use a jack to put pressure on the bottom of the kingpin. You have the weight of the truck working for you. Then try an air hammer with a blunt hammer tool against the side of the spindle where the king pin goes through.

i am replacing drums with disc brakes. thats why i am pulling king pins. the disc brakes are already assembled. and the guy i bought it from said that the disc brakes if taken apart will destroy the over sized bearing.
