Read this newspaper article...sounds cool if incoming text messages are read thru the speakers! Anyone tried it on a 2011 with sync and Nav?
Not sure I understand where to get it, how to install or if you have to pay extra??
Help appreciated.
Even the 1st gen systems do it, but the biggest hurdle is the Phone, not a lot of models support the text over bluetooth. The sync system even allows you to respond with a set of preset messages.
Yeah good luck finding a phone to do it. Ive had a Blackberry Curve 8900, and an iPhone4 and 4s, and a co-worker has Sync and a Blackberry Torch, and another has an Android (not sure which model) and NONE of them support this feature.
I have a SAMSUNG Rugby phone which is fairly new, but I don't see it on the list.
Before I pull my (limited) hair out trying to make it work, has anyone had success with this model?
I got this to work last week right after they released the update.
1) Go to syncmyride.com
2) Create an account if you don't already have one
3) You will then need to save the updated version of sync to a flash drive
4) Then plug the flash drive into your truck usb
5) After you have installed the update you have to plug the flash drive back into your computer so sync knows you have completed the update
This worked for me. I was unable to get my texts read until I installed the latest update. When I first installed the update it read some random old texts at first, but appears to be working fine now.
The instructions are very good on the sync website.
I think your phone needs to support MAP. Message Access Profile. Its one of many Bluetooth profiles that a phone may or may not have. (also PBAP,phone book access, is something else it might have.) The current Droid Bionic has it. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus will have it, but another big release, the Droid Razr will not. Just need to look at your phone's full specs online somewhere to look if MAP is part of the (Bluetooth) software.
I suppose this is a good feature for those that get a lot of text messages. I don't get many so it wouldn't be much use to me.
Half the time I forget that I can ask my truck to access the USB drive and just manually select it on the radio unit itself.
I really hope they come out with an update to support text through Sync with the IPhone....goes without saying that there's a huge market of people with IPhones who cannot use this feature with Sync.
