i have a 1993 e-350 ambulance. im getting a "rear abs" light. my breaks are very stiff. ive replaced everything except lines, master cylinder, and the proportioning valve.
i have a vacuum pump that runs accessories and the brake assist. i have 20" of vacuum until i connect the brake assist then i have 0". im guessing that i have a bad master but the brakes work fine they are just stiff.
the reason im posting this is due to my rear brakes smoking.
i have pulled my codes which are 27,62,67. and none have to do with my breaks.
Master cylinder might be fine, suspect a leaking vacuum booster.

IMO "rear brakes smoking" IS NOT "fine".
By "my breaks are very stiff" I presume you mean the brake pedal is "stiff" i.e. hard w/little travel? With no vacuum assist the brake pedal can feel hard. Dragging rear brakes overheat & can boil brake fluid, or any water inside, creating pressure, binding the brake shoes even more. Shoes need to retract, could be an adjuster problem? Without retraction pedal feels hard.
