Just a quick basic newbie question, got fuel bowl out yesterday and fuel pump coming out today for orings, hoses and what-not(fuel leak fixin's),have fuel pump bolts out and liked what I read about rotating engine over to "pop" pump out of bore(dont want to go fishin for pump part dropping in engine)didnt know if cranking it by hand wrong direction would hurt any thing so here I am,do I go cw or ccw as your looking at front of engine on crank pulley?thanks.
Ok I'm a moron,on my behalf it was early in the morning,I work late shift and my nerve / synapse/ brain impulses were somewhere else, the question shall be retracted at this time,my bad, dont hate me...

One tip: I have read that the "mark" in the harmony balancer pulley has to point to 11:Oclock to get the TDC cranshaft
Even then you have a 50/50 shot at the cam being in the correct position ...Unless the cam has 2 lobes for the pump .. Cant find any pics of the cam ...

Im confused , If it is at 11: oclock its possible that the tapet of the fuel pump goes into the engine? and some cam has 2 lobes and others dont?
BTW IIRC maybe I read the tip from you, IDK.

The 11:00 mark on the crank means the CRANK is at TDC. That means the fuel pump lobe on the CAM (presuming it's only one lobe) could either be "pointing" straight up or straight down. I've never heard of it being a double lobe, either.
As long as I get the tappet to come out of the bore I'm happy, tested all glow plugs today and looks good ,did order stancor GPR for insurance against upcoming cold weather. Can a guy literally turn these over by hand?I figured with such high compression a big a-- wrench would be needed!
Just take the bolts out the pump and spin the eng by hand and watch for the pump to rise. May take a couple spins
Yeap, but sometimes the fuel pump is stuck there and doesnt move at all.

Ok, I got that, so maybe the moral should be: take the bolts out the pump, spin the engine by hand (big pry bar*) and go to the 11:00 mark and IF the pump rise, you are fine, IF not make another HALF?** turn, and pray that your fuel pump is not stuck there. right?
* I have read that it could be done turning the alternator with some tension in the belt.
** OR it has to be a COMPLETE (360 grades) turn?. I dont think so.
The crank at 11:00 is info I read about & have questioned since I read it . Even then it gives you a chance . The cam lobe may be blocking the passage at 11 if the cam lobe is across the opening either Rt or L side .. I have my doubts the pump will rise given the cam stoke will never be longer than when it is bolted to the intake . It may wiggle , but not much more . I would think if you have your hand on it when the engine is turning , you will be able to feel the lobe. If the pump is still full of fuel , it may have a chance of popping up . Anyway , I may be able to check this out soon , I think mine is leaking again
