I test drove an 05 today with approximately 80,000 miles. The inside and outside were both very clean. It was loaded...leather, dvd, ect. It has the V10 and they are asking $14,000.There was some rust on the bottom (none on the body) but I don't think enough to be concerned about. A couple things did concern me though. When I put it in 4 low I began to hear a clinking sound like metal hiting metal coming from what sounded like near the transfer case. Then when I put it in reverse it was like the tranny was fighting against the brakes. It wanted to go backwards even with the brake fully depressed. The engine actually died. It did this 3 times in a row but only when in 4 low. When I took it back to the dealership I started to back it in the parking space (2 wheel drive) and it died again when I put it in reverse. Upon starting it back up it was fine.I was thinking about going back Friday on my day off when I have more time and taking it to a shop I trust to have it looked over. I would love any advise you guys can give me though. I wish I could describe the metal sound better. It was slow and sounded like something metal pinging against something metal. Could this be related to the ending dying when in 4 low reverse wtih brake depressed? This forum is great, my first post but I've spent literally hours the last few days reading up.Thanks
run as hard and as fasty as you can from it ............. yaw to much cash wanted for a v10 but thats my opinion .. there is a 4x4 7.3 with 170miles here for sale in portland for less than that .... with the savings you could road trip it home .. there is even a v8 gasser for 6000 and a v10 for 8000 .. look around dont get stuck on the first of fifth one you see
Yeah thanks. If I get to the point of making an offer it definately will not be close to 14,000. But I've been looking for a few weeks and around here anyway this is the first one I've seen with under 100,000 miles. Most are a decent amount over that.
It also drove very smooth. Excelerated smooth and braking was not bad either. It also seemed to shift very smooth as well. This is the cleanest one both inside and out that I've seen so far.
One more question, does this have the 4 or 5 speed tranny? I know the newer diesels have the 5 speed but not sure about the V10.
Thanks again and any opinions or advice is welcome.
Agreed, you can find a real nice 7.3 for way cheaper than that. You may end up dumping alot of money into this one to get it fixed. Take it to a mechanic before pulling the trigger. Good luck.
they have 4 speeds all of them other than the new f series trucks ..... p.s. dont let milage trick you in to a piece of **** ..... ( one thing i cant stand is people worrying about milage a vheical has ) ... get what ever ex feels right . dont look at the milage look at the maintinence .. i.e. my ex has 170,000 miles and the only thing i have done in 100,000 miles is oiil changes and a water pump... plus the more milage the less it will cost you to buy
now back to the milage argument .. i have a motorcycle with 60,000 miles on it ,,, and all my friends are amaized that with that mialege that it isnt burrned to the ground cause there used to 5,000 miles being ALOT on a bike .. stupid summer only riders ( i ride every day rain or shine hence the milage going 500 miles a week) **** i have a acura integra with 300,000 miles on it that i put driving from calli to new york ALOT of times a year.. so that said
AMERIKA stop complaining about milage and it having so many ... all it is is a number saying how far it has traveled .. not that in 5 more miles the motor is going to explode !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Agreed. Don't get me wrong about the mileage. I'm not too hung up on it. I just sold a 2002 Chev. Avalanche 2500 with 8.1L and 4.10. It had 260,000. I'd still have it but rust was starting to eat it alive. I guess that's why I'm not too scared about the gas milage of the V10 either.
Look for the one with the right feel. Mileage is a bonus and an initial indicator of what the interior might look like. Steer clear of this one, the stalling issue would really concern me.
Any thoughts? They say they want $15,500 for it. It's a small dealership that buys most of their vehicles from auction so I don't think they have any records.
Thanks
