I recall some 4 or 5 years ago reading in a 4x4 mag that there was a company out in Cal. that was re-conditioning dash pads. The article stated that they would strip the dash pad down to metal frame and then add the foam and new vinyl and would be able to match the dye used. Now, for the life of me I can't find that mag or anyone that knows who the company is that can do this.
I would love to have my cracked pad replaced and am wondering if any of you out here have had it done or can recall the company who does this?
...I had a local upholstery shop do the same thing to mine. They covered it with the original color in soft vinyl. Looks original but, feels a little softer.
Do either of you guys that had it done at an upholstery shop remember what it cost you? I can't believe I haven't thought of that considering the shape my dash pad is in.
wow, if you don't like the price of a new one you really are not going to like the price from just dashes! they specialize in stuff you can't get so they charge up the backside. i had a pad done and it was almost 500.00 and it was not much different than a truck dash. hawkrod
Would you recommend justdashes.com? Looked like pretty good stuff. I guess if it were the last piece I needed for my resto, then I would pay the price.
maybe i am missing something here, you don't want to spend the money for a new one but you would pay more to have yours fixed? yes their work will make it look just like a new one at 1 1/2 times the price. hawkrod
It wasn't me that said I wouldn't spend the money on a new one. They only reason why I would go to just dashes is that they will stain the dash to match the original color. The new dashes that I have seen out do not come in the shade of red that I have.
