I hate Michelins, worst tire I ever used on my semi and even worse on the steering axle. Felt like the front end was worn out, wandering all over, constantly herding the truck down the road. Ride was like Flintstone tires. Then there was the sidewall blowouts for no reason with under 50,000 miles. Goodyear UniSteel's were no better.

Frontend aligned twice, laser aligned all 3 axles, still crap. Swapped to BridgeStone's and ran 110,000 on the front and almost 160,000 on the drivers. Fronts still had tread, changed because the mileage. That's a lot of stress on single tires that also steer for over 100,000 miles.

Who would run semi tires on their IDI?

I drive a rough truck to and from work. My truck isn't even worth $2k and I overpaid for the truck to begin with.. I'm not going to put a grand in tires on the damn thing when it could die any day now. I sure as hell won't dish out that coin for quick wearing, soft rubber tires like Good Year makes.

I have no idea what brand tires I have on my truck right now. They cost me $200 w/ 100 miles on them. I bought them from some guy with a Suburban. I still have the aluminum Chebby wheels they came with. IDGAF what's on there as long as they're properly rated, the treads match, they ride well and they get me from point A to B during inclement weather.

In New England, I ran Good Year snows on my '99 Grand Cherokee Ltd. and they were great. I don't recall the three letter designation. The GY GSAs I ran on my YJ were junk. I've never had so many flat tires in my life. Too soft IMHO. I've yet to run a soft tire like that on any of my trucks. I don't want a flat from gravel when out and about.

How bad are the winters you get down there?
I ask because last winter it was a hell of a bad one up where I was, and everyone, and I mean everyone ran Michelins, I think the tire guy has a contract with them. Nobody that could get out of the driveway could stay on the road. The only people that were driving around was I, and the cops (They only run Goodyear in BC I believe), and like another guy with a lifted 3500 cummin's turbo diesel (though I did pull his *** out a few times).
In my (supposed to be) 20 min drive into town, and 20 min back, I pulled like 8 people out the ditch, and most were running Michelins.
I think it's all where you live the tires that are good. Where you live, and the conditions you drive in Goodyear's might burn out real fast, up here Michelins are like putting a $6000 paint job on a 90's mustang. They will do if the road is dry, but as soon as it gets bad they're pretty freakin' useless.

Here was a nice light day when I got out to play

Sheesh! The point is, if Michelin can't make a decent tire for a semi, why the heck would I pay that kind of money to put them on my pickup.

I don't mind paying for quality. In general I put out more in normal/regular safety and maintenance than many. If I pay that kind of money for a tire or anything else, it better do the job.

A friend of mine put 4 michelins on his Dodge 4x4. Hauls a 9.5 ft camper and a pontoon boat. Tires had less than 10,000 miles but were over 2 years old. Going to Lake Powell is a 350 mile trip. Lost first tire 110 miles from home (18 inches of tread just came off) Put on 6 yr old spare. In the next 200 miles the other 3 tires had sidewall separations, 2 went around into the tread so it was like driving with bent wheels. Used my spare when the first one went. Made it to the lake, put both spares on rear axle, blocked up the front axle, loaded up all the tires and headed to the first town with a Michelin dealer. Only good thing was they did warranty the tires. He sold the tires when we got back home.

I wouldn't run Michelin highway tires for winter conditions either. Blizzaks have always done well. Michelins have a hard compound, Wranglers have a soft compound. I've been told Michelin LTX M/S were very good in the snow and their winter tire LTX. I've always run Blizzaks except I ran Good Year ___ winter tires on my WJ that rocked.
