I've always changed out the plugs on our cars. I've tackled some that were a PITA but this whole breaking off thing scares the crap out of me. I dont know how many miles are on the current set as I bought it used last year and have put on about 15k miles in the last year. It runs good. On the interstate it gets about 16 mpg, around town it is horrible as to be expected. Is it better to take it to the dealer? There is a place here in town that deals with just Fords that is not affiliated to the dealership. Should I just take it there? Also, how long do the coils last? Is that a part that I replace as needed or should I upgrade those. It has 156k on it.
I have a somewhat extensive list of threads posted about DIY plug changes----can add is here if you like? There's a LOT of reading involved though............
I'm going to take it to a ford performance shop in town and let the pros do it. The price is not that bad. They are also going to look at the mystery missing transmission fluid.
They said the plugs were fine. They came back with a list of other things:
Driver window regulator needs lubed
Need new bulb and light for bumper tag lights
Serpentine belt is starting to show age
Shifter is loose, he said it needs new bushings, cheap but labor intensive
Driver side tie rod end shot
So, it is getting a transmission service and the tie rod end replaced and a alignment. I'll fix the rest except for the loose shifter. Have to look that one up.
