Inertia Switch wiring

I have a 89 F-150 with dual tanks.

My interia switch shorted out, and the harness was damaged.
I removed the harness, but damaged the switch in the process.

Can i just splice the two wires together and obtain the same affect as the interia switch - or is there something in the switch that makes it necessary?

I got 12V coming in, but when i splice the wires, I get a reading of 0V.

I replaced my switch, and all I did was splice it. Works fine.

The purpose of the switch is to stop power from going to the
electric fuel pump in the case of an accident. It a fuel line is
cut in an accident, the pump will continue to pump gas, causing
a fire (or explosion) hazard, without the inertia switch.

Make sure you reset the switch when you try it out.
