Okay Men!

Dateline : April 9th/2003

Augusta National Golf Course,
Georgia

They are at it again.

After Hootie, The President of the Augusta GC spent 5 minutes explaining to the press that he wasn't having this press conference to talk about the Membership Rules pertaining to allow women to become members of what is a *MEN ONLY* G/C

It only took the first question from the first reporter to JUMP in with both feet in his mouth to ask about the membership rules.

Do these people actually LISTEN to what is being said ?

Not only this first guy though, The following 5 reporter's asked him membership & women related questions too.

If that was me I would have told them,: I'm going to take a break now and id like you all to discuss amongst yourselves when you are all ready to discuss anything besides this women vs Augusta topic, I'll come back and answer questions.

He had great composure.

My favourite reply came after the question:
Has or If a relatively new golfer/member of Augusta ( Like Tiger Woods) made a comment about this topic, would you or have you entertain/ed a discussion?

Hootie's reply:
"We won't tell Tiger how to play golf if he doesn't tell us how to run a Golf Club".

So how do feel about the tearing down of certain institutions that are Men ONLY?

Thumbs down Okay Men!

I think this whole debacle is stupid - if it's a privately owned club, then what's the problem? Whatever happened to "my way or the highway?"

I think that if some FemmeNazi wants to play golf so bad, then she should start her own club that's WOMEN ONLY.

I won't complain.

Therein lies the problem. The woman don't want to build a history and tradition over that many years if they can just demand it.

If they start there own club, few would watch.

It's the same as Girls in the Boy Scouts and not vice-versa.

It just leads to more female resentment.

Okay Men!

Let us keep a few things for ourselves...

Women have craft stores, salons, shoe stores.. all sorts of stuff. Let us have a few places we can still get away.

These stores/salons are not for women only. Go to one any time and you'll see guys all over the place. I don't recall seeing any prohibitive signs not allowing men in, that is unless the only time you've ever tried to enter one you forgot to put your shirt & shoes back on!

Now on to the subject.

I do not agree with Martha Burk’s joining Augusta National. I personally don't see anything wrong with an all mens club just as I don't think men should join the Executive Womens Golf Association and the many other "women's" organizations out there.

If Ms. Burk want's in that bad, maybe she should take a trip to Switzerland first for a change.

Don't go putting "all" women in the same category as this "press hungry" person. There's more of us out here that think the way that I do than that agree with what she's doing.

[You have never seen a Wedding Shower party exclusively invite women and NO Men? Women group without men all the time for all types of reasons including buying Tupperware, Underwear, Bra fitting parties, you name it. Want more examples? It's okay, there is no reason that woman can't group without men. Just don't hand us the it's one way routine.]

There's part of the problem. Everybody thinks that they are denying Martha Burk the right to be in the club when she doesn't even want to join. She just wants to force them to have women members. She never said she wanted to be one of them.

1997RangerXLT:

Apparently you didn't like this part of my previous statement, at least not enough to quote:

"I personally don't see anything wrong with an all mens club just as I don't think men should join the Executive Womens Golf Association and the many other "women's" organizations out there."

I do like the way you quote me only on the part that you feel you can make some kind of an attack.

As far as those functions you mentioned, I would think that it's more a matter of choice. Do you really want to go with us? Press the issue with your sig. other until she takes you with and see just how much fun you have... BTW - there were actually 3 guys at my Bridal Shower.

Come on down to Florida and even though I don't like to go to them myself (by choice), I'll find a Tupperware party and take you with me.

Okay Men!

I think this is one of the most ridiculous events of past history, and a huge money waster.

It's a private club.

What is the difference in Augusta and fraternities and sororities? What about VFWs, you have to be a vet, or related to one. I really don't see one.

Is Burk against fraternities? If she is, then she has to be against sororities, or she is two faced.

Carlene, I had to laugh about the trip to Switzerland. Either that or Pueblo Colorado. It's the sex change capitol of the US.

Okay Men!

I see the issue as she just wants to make trouble.

I consider her in the same light as the 'guy' that wanted to be a Hooters waitress.

Okay Men!

It is my understanding that woman CAN golf there. They just cannot be a part of what determines how the club is run. So I think the shrews outside complaining, just don't have anything better to do.

No doubt the judge's ruling that they have to stay a 1/2 mile away from the front gates while protesting, really took some of their fire away.
