E4OD HELP
I am not really sure whats wrong with my transmission its a 90 model E4OD and it doesnt go in third gear just straight to fourth. i let a family member borrow it one day and supposedly they turned right and it just died.. i went to check it out and it had no fire and no power to the fuel pump replaced the ecm and the fuel pump relay and this other relay that controls fire and then i found out it wouldnt go into 3rd gear anymore have no idea what it could be.. any help will be greatly appreciated
It could be any sensor on the motor or trans. The motor has to run good for the CPU to tell the trans to shift. Check your motor codes and fix the issues. Trans will most likely be fine once you do.
well the motor runs good now but there still could be a bad sensor i dont know about.. but where can i get all the codes read??
After it shifts to 4th, press the O/D cancel button and see if you get 3rd. If you do, then you have a sprag clutch given up, needing a rebuild.

if it gets to fourth and i push the button it doesnt do anything
Use the search to find a How to do self test. Follow the directions and post back the codes. This is not guess what part is broken month. If I felt up to it, I could get you to buy a few sensors just to see if you will... I dont play that guess game with others trucks. Get the codes lets fix it right. The trans tosses codes too, its not just for the motor.. There is no reason to guess unless your CPU is messed up and not getting the codes.
How do u figure a "sprag" is going out by electronically taking is out of 4th (od) gear?

Most automatics including the E4OD do not give engine braking in the gears lower than top when the selector is in Drive (OD if you like). If you manually select that gear, then you WILL get engine braking.
This means that gears 1, 2, and 3 have overrun or "sprag" clutches for the freewheel action, backed up by clutches or bands for when the freewheeling is not wanted.
If you press the O/D cancel switch with the selector in OD, and the speed is above the 2-3 upshift speed then you get a manual selection of 3rd with the Coast Clutch eliminating the freewheeling. With no OD Cancel, a sprag provides the drive and allows freewheeling (assuming its working)
First of all I suspected it when it happened to me, and the transmission overhaul confirmed it.

One way or the other this guy needs to pull his codes before a net tuner diagnoses a trans that needs a rebuild. Even the trans shops start by pulling codes after half listening to how you tell them its working. Then they pull it apart and tell you what really happened.
