measuring tools
I need a dial caliper 0-6, dial indicator, snap gauges, bore gauges and set of mics 0-1 - 3-4. I wanted to get Starrett but I've heard that quality is not as good as it used to be. Any suggestions? They are for work and need to last.

Mitutoyo for analog measuring devices, and Harbor Freight snap gauges work well for me. I had a small set of Starrett micrometers, but I just didn't use them often enough to justify what I spent on them. The best micrometer I had was a Mac or a Snap-On branded one that went from .3 to 1.3" for brake rotors. It had an extended anvil to clear obstructions, and was quite accurate. I still have that somewhere I think-

By some older starrett's as long as the standard is with them to check and set them they will be as good as any newer ones.. if they haven't been misused like for a c clamp or something.. which I have seen done..
