Well all the bad hype does not seem to be as true as it use to be on this oil cooler. But... I am still going to give it time before I decide to get it.

There was a lot of bad hype because most people did not know any better. Most people thought that 10 degrees spread was absolute, towing or not.
As time went on more and more people are starting to monitor their oil temps more closely and are seeing OEM oil cooler temps get up in the 230+ and realize that 10 degree spread is not realistic in all operating conditions.

I saw no big difference towing or not if I keep my foot light on the pedal, my spread is around 15 to 18 cruising on flat highway empty, 20 to 30 driving at 75 MPH, EOT between 210 and 222. Before my coolant replaced, spread was around 8 to 12
I guess when we talk about towing, we have to specify the type of towing. Head wind makes a big difference, uphill and pedal to the floor, heavy towing, towing a camper with lots of wind resistance, etc.

so if i am readintg this correctly is it being said that the bigger spreads of 18-23 EOT are not something to be concerned abt??
just want to make sure because when i see mine go up i slow down to get it to drop..

They ARE something to be concerned about. The old spec IIRC was 25*(?) and there were lots of EGR cooler failures that weren't properly diagnosed. That's why Ford specifies a spec of 15* now.

This is what I do too, slow down, but my plan is to change the cooler. High EOT is not a problem with the oil itself, but the EGR cooler not receiving enough cooling, but y would need a little camera in there to see what really happen.
It would be nice to have a sensor in the EGR cooler to see how are the temps in there.

Not as much. You still need to be concerned with overall oil temps but you don't have to worry about the EGR cooler popping and puking coolant into your motor.

That's how it's supposed to be tested. LOTS of misinformation posted on this subject.

i have a question and im sorry if it was already addressed...
i have my egr cooler deleted so im not worried about it rupturing..
my ect run from 182-195.. depending on how long im on the freeway
my eot runs 205-225.. also depending on freeway time
im sure it is clogged wuite a bit but if it isnt getting too high is it a huge problem.. has the coolant system pressurizing behind the clog ever resulted in a ruptured OIL COOLER? could the restricted flow be causing my above 190* ect?
thanks guys...

The 15 degree Ford spec only applys to ford OEM parts. This is the info from ford that your oil cooler is beginning to clog up which inturn starves ur OEM EGR cooler of coolant an it gets to hot an cracks. With IPR's oil cooler you will se higher oil temps but your EGR cooler is getting plenty of coolant.

I think the IPR oil cooler is a good design. An does a good job at what it's designed to do. Cool ur oil to a manageable temp while having alot less change of ever clogging up an starving ur EGR cooler. It's like any other aftermarket part you buy. There is always a compromise. If u buy a programmer u run the risk of blowin HG or broken tranny.

IMHO. For the price of the IPR oil cooler. It can't be beat. I couldn't afford the BPD external oil cooler. I am very pleased with my decision to buy the IPR oil cooler. I can only tell an report what I have seen so far from my oil cooler.

Yea, the egr cooler will operate even better with more coolant flow.
