Hi Everyone,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> I need to clean up some welding on my 56 f100 cab. The previous owner welded all the seams to get that great smooth look. His welding skills left allot to be desired. Would it make more since to finish off the poor welding with lead instead of a rookie welder trying to fill in the low spots? <o></o>
Lead can be good...it bonds well, and can give a great finish. It does, however, come with some health hazards. If you get it too hot when you solder it into place, it can vaporize & be bad to breathe. When you sand it, the dust goes into the air...so you need to wear breathing protection. Wash your hands before you eat your sandwich or drink a beer!! I have been using bondo or fibre-strand on the last couple of projects that I've been working on. Those came out pretty well.
Eastwood does have both lead and non lead products i personally like lead since it melts at a slightly lower temp and is easier for me to use BUT that said and mentioned earlier there are some health concerns and me being a snuff chewer use the lead free now days!! like my dad used to say "that will put some lead in your pencil" jwj
