quick and simple swap question
I have an 89 s/b 4x4 f150 with an I6 / 5spd. The engine is knocking
I'm working on getting a 90 f150 s/b ext cab 4x4 with a 302. The 90 has no transfer case and the tranny is shot, but the engine is good.
Can I pull the trans / transfer case from my 89 and swap it right into the truck with the 302? It seems like I read that the 302 and I6 are interchangeable as far as the tranny is concerned, is that correct?

the swap will work,I am not sure if the drive shafts will be the same length or not and you may have to use the cross member from the 89. Is the 302 a manual tranny truck? If not you will need a flywheel for the 302,I don't think the one for the 6 cyl is balanced the same. If the 302 was an auto truck,you can run the same computer and have coded related to the tranny or get a manual tranny computer. Might be more stuff to consider,but these are a few things.

Yeah, I wondered about the driveshafts. I'm not sure if it's manual or auto yet, go see it tuesday. I can find the missing pieces in the junkyard, there are tons of them there. I just wasn't 100% sure on the tranny bolting right up.
