Chessy leaf springs

My F-350 is a dumper and has been in the barn all winter. I used it a bit before the snow flew this winter and the suspension was not what Ford calls heavy duty. My '71 F-350 carried weight much better. I brought it to a local spring guy yesterday and they added two more leafs per side. I immediately noticed a diference, the back end is atleast a inch higher . He told me that his shop has done over ninety Super Duties since the series was introduced . I guess what I am saying is I love this truck but waht is with the factory cheese.

Chessy leaf springs

Well, when I was taking apart the front end of my F-350 this past weekend I noticed the leaf springs were stamped "made in Mexico"!

I thought we decided you were WAY overloading the F350.

Chessy leaf springs

This has been gone over before, upon inspection on the rear of mine I had four broken springs on one side and I think there were three broken springs on the right. A lot of other folks have chimed in with stories of broken springs as well. As for wheather or not it was over loaded, I don't know about yours but mine wasn't!The springs are suspect and should be inspected and/or replaced!

I was just basing it (the overloaded part) on the info in the past thread. I don't think the arresting officer is going to care that the truck was beefed up by adding springs if it was way over it's GVWR when it ran into the back of a van full of girl scouts.

Chessy leaf springs

Nafzimo was referring to this-

leaf springs seem cheasey

My new SD V10 one ton dump is a great rig. My only conscern after working it for a couple of weeks now is that it just seems real weak in the leaf spring dept. It is the heaviest duty that you can et factory. My old "71 f-350 had way more ***** for leafs regarding sag under load. Will it help to have some after market springs added. I actually have to bend over to get to the gas filler neck when there is a load on.
