I'm the proud owner of one 63' F100. The original 292 Y-Block has a knock. The seller has convinced me that a piston is cracked. While, I'm sure the 292 is plenty adequate to be a reliable daily driver with the right machine work and parts, I'm exploring the possibility of a temporary transplant.
I'd actually like to try a cheap and easy swap by going to a more modern 300 I6 with matching tranny. I'm looking for the mid 90's engine with Fuel Injection. Does anyone have experience with this or have any links. I'm specifically interested in crossmembers and mounts as well as the type of airflow sensing and transmission control.
If the total cost could exceed the cost of rebuilding my Y-Block then by all means warn me. Hazards going into such a thing will get this machine back on the road where it belongs.
Hi Mac, Welcome to FTE! you can find engine/trans crossmembers from Dennis carpenter... here is a site for rebuild kits for the Yblock FORD Y
what will a replacment engine/trans cost? exaust? driveshaft mods? radiator maybe? cost of crossmembers? which ever way you go it will cost twice as much as you think it will.
Thanks for the lead. With costs of individual machining operations, necessary parts, and a DIY assembly, I should be able to calculate fairly closely the cost of a stock rebuild. The cost of a swap does have many shrouded costs. So that route is a slow and careful one. If anyone has details on mounting a more modern I6 I'm all ears.
