Hi Guys
'08 F350 4x4
Anybody had a problem with a thump on acceleration.
I've taken it in three times and the dealer can't find anything.
Got under and watched it accel and saw the tranny and T case actually shift.
Put a prybar on the tranny mount. It moves to much for me, but dealer said it's fine. Have half a mind to buy a new one anyway.
Curious if anyone else had the problem.
Gonna go back down and have the service writer go for a ride with me and tell me he doesn't feel it.
Don't have that at all. Have you looked into the slip joint for the driveshaft as being the possible cause. Sometimes those need to be lubed up and put back together.
Watched the engine from underneath on accel. Seems to be fine.

Watched it also, seems fine.
There is (to me) to much T case movement. However all bolts and joints are good and tight.

Mine does this when starting off from a dead stop.
I'm going to pack the slip yoke full of grease as
We did when I was an assistant Svc mgr at a Ford dealer

Maybe I don't get it but what would the slip joint have to do with a thump unless the bearing was bad or there was movement in another location.
Why would you pack it with grease?
Ok, I understand the need for lubrication of the joint.
Doesn't apply in my case as the movement/thump comes at stop lights on flat ground with no suspension movement. So there is no slip involved. Only rotation.
Kind of curious why Ford would ( since lubrication is needed ) install a boot over the slip with non reusable clamps. I have not had the joint apart so not familiar with their replacement.
I still go back to what I consider excessive movement of the tranny/Tcase.
Gonna buy a new mount tomorrow.
im curious as to how you see it move? I imagine you hanging out the door upsidedown holding the door open against the wind....
Crazy how my imagination jumps to this instead of something constructive that may help you...

LOL
It does bring up strange images.
I laid next to it as my wife drove back and forth.
Watch your toes!!!!
Got my new tranny mount. Will install today.
Marc.... I am surprised at you! You didn't tie yourself to the bottom of your truck, and then have Nancy drive you all over creation as you watched for a bumping noise????
Entered my mind.
I guess I'm just not dedicated enough.
Installed the new tranny mount.
Thought I had it after driving around for a bit,,,,,,,, then it came back.
On to the next deal.
I'm figuring I'll keep working my way back. I'll give the slip joint a good going over next.

The Leaf Spring Suspension allows axle wrap when starting off [heavy truck]
from a dead stop causing the Slip Yoke on driveshaft to collapse / extend making
the thump.
If you load the Driveline by lightly easing down on the accelerator pedal
with the brakes on, this thump is not present because the slack is tightened up
as you start off from a stop
