I have a 1996 F250 Gas truck. E4OD had 125,000 miles on it .I went in and did fluid change and while in their installed trans-go kit in forward accumulator body(Line -mod, 2nd springs,3rd springs,4th springs). The tranny shifted nicely after the install but after a couple hundred miles the front pump seal began to leak pretty good.(grey seal in front pump)..I pulled the tranny and we went through the whole tranny with new frictions and went ahead and did the pump mods(P/R spring, Converter reg spring, drilled the cup plugs out to what Trans-go speced for firmer lock up and drilled the partition in the pump webbing for constant lube. I also drilled the main seperator plate as per Trans go instructions as well as the mods for the forward feed..after putting the tranny back in it worked fine but the shifts were not as snappy as they were before with just the forward accumulator springs...I have since removed the trans-go stuff from the forward accumulaotr and replaced the line mod with the larger Sonnax unit(.427") and also the shift valves with their replcement valves with the shims. The shifts are now taylored to my liking and are very crisp but not harsh.I am curious as to possibly why after the rebuild the shifts with the Tran-go stuff was not as crisp as they were with the tranny at 125,000 miles on it??? Any input from Factory Tech or anyone else in the know would be appreciated....
Rick,
I too put a transgo kit in my e4od when I rebuilt it and I am having the same problems with the shift quality. I had numerous problems after the rebuild with the valve bodys. I had to replace the solinoid body, then it wouldn't upshift to 3rd gear because of sticky valves in valve body. Off came the pan again and I freed up a couple of regulator valves. It worked fine for about two weeks then started the same BS. Well, off came the pan for the 3rd time in four weeks. I pulled all of the valve bodys off and went through them with a microscope. i didn't just clean all the valves, I also very gently honed all of the bores they were in. It works fine now but I am not happy with soft shifts. Next time I change the fluid I will put in a new kit. Are you happy with yours now? Please elaborate as I am trying to find something I will be happy with.
Larry
I had a similar soft shift result from a Trans -Go kit.
I also have a problem with not having a 1st gear while in Drive. It feels like I am starting in 2nd gear!
I have to select 1st gear to take off from a stand still.
Anybody have the answer?
