well gang, been a slow month on the truck.

car shows, the heat and other commitments have slowed our progress.

We spent yesterday working on the last two doors.

My buddie mudded up the blue door we did a few weeks ago, and I started cutting and welding up the last door.

well gang,

we finished up the last door patch job yesterday.

and we swapped out hoods. The hood I got with the truck needed a new front lip, and the underside front brace replaced.

This hood is from a 55 big job, and only needs some ridge and dent repair.

Well boys and girls, the progress continues.

Saturday we started attatching the bed rails onto the bed.

As you can see, im NOT using the traditional wood floor. Instead I bent up a piece of 12 guage Galvanized and welded it to the previous owners bedside lip repair.

We started by squaring the tailgate area of the bed and welding temporary braces onto the bed.

Then we removed the original rear crossmember as it was missing the chassis mounting brackets, and was rotted more than the donor crossmembers I picked up previously.

Because im using a steel floor we had to cut up some 1" spacers to fit under the front and rear crossmembers from end to end.

Then we fit the front Z crossmember to the bed, again using a 1" spacer because we omited the wood floor.

After temporally fastening the front and rear crossmembers we put the bed on the chassis to check alignment and start working on the center crossmembers.

We cut some more 1" spacers for the middle crossmembers, but to save some weight, we only put the spacers on the crossmembers where they meet the chassis.

I played with my banged up tailgate today attemping to pull the massive dents on the top rail of the gate.

Im still not sure what im going to do for a tailgate, but I had some free time so I figured what the hell.

I eneded up cutting off the tailgate latch brackets so I could hammer in a round tube and attempt to push out the dents once they were cherry red.

The dents came out, and wouldnt be too hard to patch at this point.

The field of the "|FORD|" area is pretty well beat up as well, so I think that will get a panel welded over it from edge of gate to dege of gate making the gate a smoothie.

Only had a few hours of progress today, but here it is.

We welded up all the crossmembers and spacers.

Then we Undercoated the underside of the bed.

Then we realized that we had not cut out the hole for the fuel fill.

So we loosely bolted the bed to the chassis and started cutting.

First we drilled out a 3-4" hole (I honestly dont know what size it was)

And then opened the hole up for the flip open billet door.

Then my buddie started digging thru his pile of goods and came up with some fuel hoses that we combined with a hagen fill thru neck and gas cap.

I think the billet fuel door looks pretty sharp, only issue is that it was intended to mount on the side of a newer mustang.

So now their is a space between the steel deck and the billet fuel door.

Im thinking I might find a piece of plastic that I can use as a shim, or maybe a piece of rubber.

Hello gang,

well another day is all but over.

After working on my 78 F250 for a couple hours I jumped back onto the 56's tailgate.

I have decieded to smooth over the gate rather than trying to bang out fifty six years of dents from the tailgates |FORD| field.

I had a piece of galvanized sheet metal laying around from a previous project, so I cut a piece and fitted it to the tailgate.

Before I weld up the tailgate, I have to try and straighen it out a bit. The tailgate is racked a bit on the passenger side. I dont have anything at home that I can try to fix it with so Im thinking I might have to bring it to work.

Just have to figure out how or what to use to straighten it out.

Progress update.

After thinking about my new fuel door issue for a week, I came up with a plan.

This fuel door was intended to be mounted on a newer mustang, basically a replacement fuel door. So it has an oversized set of holes that act as a locator when the door is mounted to the mustang.

I ended up opening up the mounting holes in the bed to accomadate the tabs that existed in the new fuel door.

This allowed the fuel door to sit flush with the steel floor.

A little seam sealer before we paint the truck and it will look like it was welded to the bed.

Then I moved onto the bed side repair and the tail/bed post repairs.

I had to cut out an area that was connected to the rear bed post.

Then made a patch and Welded it in using my Spot Welder.

Then welded the remainder of the patch in, ground it down, rewelded the spots I missed. And now its ready for bondo and primer.

Then I moved on tying in the stake pockets to the new bed floor.

drivers side.

Passenger side.

And I started fabbing up my teardrops.
