Autolite Platinum. I took the advice of this forum and everyone said motorcraft or autolite. Sorry for hijacking the thread.I will start a new one with my issues.
I'm goin through the same thing now. 2003 F250 with the V-10 engine. Did the plugs two weeks ago and it ran great for 1 week. Then same thing started goin on again. If I stop at a stop sign or light, it dies at idle. I'm so pissed right now with this truck. I had the truck hooked up to a computer today and no codes came up. Running with a bad miss to the point that the truck almost bucks and no CEL. I'm gonna try replacing the PCV and hose and then the IAC. I'm lost
i had the head temp sensor changed and it stoped all that on mine
I have never heard of that before, but what would I be checking for? I am tackling the IAC this weekend and will attempt to clean it and reinstall.
It is tied to engine performance. It has a really fine mesh screen that was completely clogged on mine and was blowing the solenoid out of the canister. I kept putting it back thinking I knocked it out some how, finally it dawned on me it may be my problem so I took it out started the truck stuffed a rag in the hole and the engine immediately died. It has 2 wires going to it but since it was out of the canister it wouldn't throw a code until I plugged the hole with a rag. I took the old one apart and discovered the screen in there. I believe what it does is allow excess air pressure in the fuel system to be purged out. The parts stores had never heard of it but my local Ford dealer had, I think it's one of their little secrets. LOL It will take you 5 minutes to check.
I just loaded pictures of the solenoid on my album page, but I can't figure out how to get them on here

Reason: pictures
What brand of plugs did you use? These modular engines seem to work best with the Motorcraft Platinum plugs. I have heard of other owners who have had misfires and sputters using other brands. Some owners say Autolite also works and a few have had decent luck with Champion.
As for the CEL, it about takes a dead cylinder to light a CEL. This is why a scanner that can read PENDING CODES is important. A misfire will set a pending code, but lighting a CEL seems to take an act of congress.
The plugs that I used were direct replacement's from autolite.... AP-103 I think... I got those from napa, but am about to change them out for the motorcraft platinum plugs if I don't fix my problem soon!
Also, like i had said in a previous post....I had the pending code checked @ a friends shop and it showedthe missfires. Then I was screwing around and unhooked the TPS(trying to see if maybe it was the problem). The truck ran the same but the CEL finally came on and that's how I got the missfire CEL (also got the tps cel obviously b/c I had unplugged it messing around).
Still trying to figure out what's wrong, keep the ideas coming!!!
thanks,
Robert
I feel your frustration and went through everything you did and then some. Check your fuel evoporator purge solenoid valve. It should be located on the driver's side front fender at the end of the canister. Ford Only Part# F74Z-9F945-CA that is the number for my 2004 v-10. I've posted this numerous times to others but never heard a response as to whether it was the problem, so if it works please let me know.
I looked on my 2003, I see the canister, but I don't see a solenoid or any wires for it..... maybe some pics???
Thanks,
Robert
You've got three photos in your album from the looks of it. If you can tell me which ones you want, I'll try to post them for you if you'd like.
Thanks powerstroker72, all 3 photos they are the same part just different angles. I'll be gone hunting until next Monday so no posts from me until then. Thanks for the help.

okay, update. I don't see that vavle on my truck so I dunno.
I had ford diagnose the truck for me today.... tired of just guessing I suppose. The mechanic told me at first he thought that I had valve issues. But he switched around the coil packs for the cylinders that were missing, and it didn't change anything. Then he switched the spark plugs. The miss followed the spark plugs. The mechanic also told me that on his fuel map showed that my truck was running a little bit lean. The previous owner removed the cat, so I'm not suprised that the truck runs a little lean. So, looks like I'm going to put in a second set of plugs in my truck.... You can't always trust new parts....
