<hr style="color:#FFFFFF; background-color:#FFFFFF" size="1"> 2001 F150. My wife got me an auto start for my birthday. Brand is Astro-start, and it's the 2-way model. I've taken it back to the shop 4 times now because 95% of the time the doors won't unlock with the remote. He's telling me that the BCM (Body Control Module) is going into stand-by mode and won't wake up for some reason. If you remotely start first then they will unlock. He said he called Ford and it is just a bad BCM or something to do with the door latch, and I'll have to take it to them to fix it. I've never had problems with the dome light staying on like some have, and the Ford remotes have always worked flawlessly. What's going on? Is this guy incompetent? Any ideas of what I could do about it myself?
I don't know about a body module on a Ford truck, but it sounds like the battery voltage might be going too low such that the sensitivity of your system gets marginal.
I would try a trickle charger trick to keep the battery/system voltage higher.
Then try with the charger still on it at a time it would normally fail.
If OK, I would be inclined to think your battery may fall low on capacity after setting some time and need replacement or there is a system drain adding to the situation.
If a battery is getting degraded, all the systems that are kept alive waiting for a signal could be affected after adding yet another system to push the problem over the limit.
I would check the Alternator for a leaking rectifier in it's stack. This would be enough a full time drain and run the battery voltage down.
Thoughts only, trying find a way to detect the issue.
Good luck.
Never ever heard of that BS.....first off, not to be mean, but cheap alarms like that never work right...have done tons of Viper, Auto-Page, and Clifford alarm/remote start with no problems ever....Ive also never heard of issues with door locks unless improper install of alarm. The guy sounds like hes tryin to dodge responsibility....

It's a new Optima battery, haven't had any starting or other battery type issues. It will go into standby and fail to unlock only 2 minutes after shutting the engine off. Someone also told me that BCM is a GM term and that ford calls it a CSM or something.

I thought Astro Start was a good brand? I don't know a lot about them. I would have preferred to install one myself but they won't sell a lot of the brands to individuals. I tried to get the install manual from him and he said he can't give it out because people have lost their dealers licenses for doing that, so it makes it tough for me to diagnose it.
Astro Start is a great brand, I believe they are a Canadian company with tons of experience making products that work in the deep cold.
I would call Auto Trim Design in Fairbanks. They installed my Astro Start, and I had the exact same problem as you, doors wouldn't unlock with the remote, unless the truck was running. I brought it back and they fixed it, not sure how. Call them up and see if they have something you might be able to tell your local installer to do or look at.
I use a ProStart 2-way with Alarm which I installed last year. The only problem I had with the pwr door locks was the wiring diagram was reverse for my model year. Maybe the installer used the wrong wires from the RKE module, maybe he didn't solder them and you have intermitant problems. The RKE module wires to use are Lock: Pink/Green(-) and Unlock: Pink/Yellow(-). These are in the grey connector. I originally had them reversed, but you'll know if the doors lock when using the unlock fob button. The wires from the remote start module were Unlock: Green and Lock: Brown. The RKE module on my 02 was under dash forward of park brake assy. Whiteish looking module case.
A web site called; the12volt.com has been very helpful for me on automotive electrical issues.

Reason: Correction from 'GEM' to 'RKE module'

I've been in their shop! I may do that and see if they have any ideas. Thanks.

He said that he triple-checked the connections. The lock function always works, and the unlock will work if you have started the pickup with the remote, i.e. after the "BCM" has woken up. Still is a screwy deal.
I may have found something for you from a (Ford Remote Start with Remote Keyless Entry) instruction. This is a test if you don't have the Factory Perimeter Alarm. Maybe your vehicle has the door trim switch disable feature running.
Test for Door Trim Switch Disable option (vehicles equipped with factory RKE only):
1. Roll down the drivers door window and close all doors, hood, trunk or hatch;
2. Lock the doors using the factory RKE transmitter;
3. Wait one minute, then reach in the driver door window and press the door trim unlock switch.
* If the doors unlock, the door trim disable feature is not enabled and no further action is required.
* If the doors do not unlock, connect the system's factory alarm disarm output as shown in the vehicle specific wiring section or disable the door trim switch disable feature using the NGS or WDS testers.
Lime is correct...I installed my Code in my 2001, and I did the test he is describing also. The RKE(remote keyless entry) is not the same as the GEM module.....My RKE is a greyish/whitish box that says "keyless entry" right on it. I was able to tap into the lock and unlock wire right off the module with no diode's.......I did however have a issue with the door triggers, which I had to double diode them......

You are correct also 96f150, I messed up stating the GEM had the wires to tap into when it actually was the RKE module. Glad you caught that. I'll try to edit to correct.
1Fordnatic, I think the NGS and WDS are Ford diagnostic scan tools. Maybe 96f150's diode repair would work for you?
