Differences in 4x4 frames?

Hey guys, I've recently found a good rolling chassis for $500. Comes with a 390, 4 speed and it's a 69 (ish he says) 4x4 frame.

I wanted to know if my 78/79 stuff will fit this frame (both my truck and the donor frame are longbox, but my truck is a 2WD)??

So basically I'm asking.. what are the differences between a 69 4x4 frame and a 79 4x4 frame?

well that older frame is going to have a divorced t-case setup and a low pinion dana 44 front and an older 16 spline dana 60 rear.

i know the older frames were a bit different, but im sure with work and time and probably some cutting and welding anything is possible

I assume we're talking about a 3/4 ton chassis here, if so, they're the same from '67-'77.5, all you'll need to do is redrill your bed to accomodate the narrower frame rails.

That's the problem haha. I'm not set to weld at the moment. The garage needs the proper power outlet for my AC/DC arc welder. Been meaning to get that done for a while now... but it just aint happening anytime soon.

Btw, what's the difference between divorsed and married t-cases? I've never owned a 4x4 yet (but I'd love to).

I guess I should have specified that. It's a half-ton chassis. Owner says it's an F150 chassis with a five bolt D60 in the rear. At first I was like D60!!!! YAY! Then I thought... wait.. five-bolt? No.... And he's right. It's a D60 5 bolt. Aint very strong at all, so that will need replacing. Not sure about the front diff though.

Hopefully this doesn't change your answer very much. I was enjoying doing minimal work to the bed to get it to work haha.

The difference with the front end is that on the frame you are lookin at the out put on it will be close to the ground where as the 77.5-79 exit at the top and are stronger. But good news is they are interchangeable. I say go for it. The bed is the only thing you need to re-drill to get to fit. everything else should bolt right up. good luck and post pics along the way.
