Turbo?
I've got my truck down for turbo cleaning, EGR delete and an oil cooler. I disassembled the turbo and the unison ring was frozen to the center section. I had to soak it in PB Blaster and pry it off. The unison ring looks pretty good, but the center setion has a lot of scale and rust. Removing the rust with a wire brush still doesn't allow the unison ring to rotate. How aggresive can I get with removing the rust or do I need to replace the turbo?

When i cleaned mine it wasn't frozen on but close ,the cleaning instructions say scotch brite pads which i used but i also used light sanding dics to remove the heavy stuff. Mine was pitted very bad got mostly clean but pits were still there. When you put it back together use a high temp antisieze not a lot just lightly on U ring and viens where they sit on ring.

Thanks Wulfman. We used 100 grain sandpaper and finally got it rotating. Its still has severe pitting. My concern is that the pitting will fill with soot and cause the ring to stick again.
