98 navigator tranny
hey guys i know i new to the site but i really want to know what tranny is in my navigator i took the nav off of my dads hands since he didnt care for it anymore so it a project truck for me i have done some research on it and some sites say E4OD or the 4R100 tranny i know they the same but ford did some changes to them plus the door sticker says E on the tranny part which the E is the E4od tranny i just wanting to make sure i have the right tranny bc the eng and tran need a rebuild since the truck has 226xxx mile on her and thanks guys any answers will help

well to be sure u might have to get under the truck to check, but if it has 20 bolts in the pan then its a 4r100, im sure thats the only trany all navigators 99-02 came with but not so sure of 98?
also why dose the truck need a rebuild?

it an E4OD tranny that is in the truck i looked and found the manfu sticker and googled it so the E4OD is the same as the 4R100 but the 4R is more hd ten the E4 but oh well the tranny has lasted over 226k miles and so has the eng and 5.4T the eng when driving or starting up cold i get a knock sound then after awhile it goes away even when i am driving i will get the same sound at a certain rpm but lately i havent heard anything since i changed the front grille (had broken mounts) so for i have no loss in power i still run strong but i need to get the tranny flushed 2 to 3 on med or hard throttle i get a hard shift so ill see what i can do to make it better. Plus this was my dads truck and after awhile he didnt care about it anymore so i selling my explorer to take over my nav best vehicle you can have
