Unhappy Auto E scantool 7.3 00 help

This thing drives me crazy! i scan the truck then bring the computer in the house and it deletes the codes it showed before!! can someone help me figure out how to use it right? i dont know how to save the information, i had this thing over a year and would like to be able to use it.

am i not using the correct protocol and such for a 7.3 enhanced ?

everytime i did the first koer test it made my truck shut off.

i got cyl #8 contribution code with that test. (p0284n cyl 8 cont bal fault)

and i got seat belt light failure code too (b1428 lamp seatbelt)

i did the buzz test and it worked and they all sounded the same.

would like to get the seat light fixed anyone know how?

im afraid to even try the glow plug test i dont want them to get burned out.

help me figure out how to use this thing.. i gotta write everythign down on paper cause it deletes the info when i go in the house.

At first I was going to ask why don't you just leave the computer plugged into the truck and use your WiFi to surf for answers on the codes. But then I realized you live in Alaska, guess it isn't exactly the warmest time of the year up there. Sorry about that.

My next question should be, what are you trying to diagnosis? A dead miss? Then I'd say #8 is the culprit, but that's just going from my knowledge of 6.0L & AE.

I went and tried to load a data logging from 3 weeks ago on my truck...mine i blank as well. The AE acts almost as if the data is RAM stored...but I'm not sure.

Haven't tried saving anything with mine yet so can't answer, but personally I'd contact customer support.

no not diagnosing anything, just hooking it up to try it out and see.

it seems no different them my auto xray that tells me the codes.

I'm not familuar with "Auto Xray" or using AE on a 7.3L; so the rest of this is just an assumption on my part. You should be able to do a contribution/power balance test on the injectors. That will help you diagnose a weak/leaking injector if you've got a miss. As well at look at fuel demands, oil/coolant temperature deltas (if you've got a clogged oil cooler, the oil will be 15F+ degrees higher than the coolant). When I was having issues getting my AE to talk to my 6.0L I emailed AE's tech support, very friendly folks and willing to translate into "weekend warrior" for those of use that don't work on diesels or computers for a living.

its in the sofware it said, you have to connect it to your vehicle! that sticker on the thing isnt it i dont belive. why would you have to connect it to your car and open sofware to read it if that was just the sticker on the thing.

I could be wrong tho. who knows. all i know is im f*&*(&ing with this AE instead of working on the EXCURSION!

The hardware ID is on the sticker on the hardware. It's not that complicated.

When I plug mine in the device ID comes back as the 5 digit number on the sticker, but the 2 letters after the dash are different. I don't know why that is.

However, you shouldn't have to have features activated in order to connect AE. Hook up the adapter to your computer, start the scan tool and connect. You want the Year and Make, then under Model you want "Powerstroke 7.3". The only system available will be "Generic Powertrain", but that shouldn't matter, connect to it anyway. All you want is a connection so that you can get the device code.

I know I did this when I upgraded mine last and I don't remember having any problems. I don't remember if I used the code from the software, or the code on the sticker, though. I think I used the code on the sticker but that was some time ago.

If you can't get it connected, call or email AE's technical support. They are really quite good about answering questions.

They were very helpful to me when I was have some issues with my AE. You could also call 'em...but they handled everything I need via email. I realize the 7.3L & 6.0L are completely different animals...so you may not have to do this, but on the 6.0L you have activate the "enhanced bundle" to read codes & troubleshoot the 6.0L equipped trucks/SUV/vans.

What was on the blue paper was the original activation code. About every 6 months with a new software release they require a new activation code. This is because you pay $50 per year for updates.

The last time I upgraded the software, the activation code no longer worked. I had to fill out an online form with my hardware ID, purchaser name and I believe email address. They sent me a new activation code fairly quickly. Since it's now been more than a year since I purchased the software, I'll have to spend $50 if I want to upgrade next time a new release comes out.

Note that the activation code is not for the generic software, though. It is for the Ford Enhancement.
